GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE DEVICE

Callibri is a massive project intended to create a versatile portable wireless sensor with an extensive set of features and functions in the form of an SDK. Currently, Callibri sensor is the basic element, which is used to create a wide range of products and technologies.

Furthermore, Callibri sensor can be considered as the foundation for various startups of other companies, which develop applications and programs in order to process electrophysiological or biomedical signals.

Callibri is able to work with both personal computers and smartphones. The sensor can be connected to a personal computer using one of the wireless interfaces: the proprietary one (2.4GHz) or Bluetooth connection.

This document covers the wide range of products developed for such mobile platforms as Android and iOS. The connection between the sensor and the smartphone is carried out using Bluetooth LE interface.

Callibri is offered in two different versions:

• for electrophysiology
• for electromyostimulation (EMS).

Callibri for Electrophysiology

This version of the sensor can be used to register the following signals:

• any types of bio-electric potentials (EEG, EMG, ECG or rheography);
• the angular speed and the angular acceleration, as well as the angle of the horizon deviation using the triaxial MEMS-sensor (having a gyroscope and an accelerometer).

All bio-electric potentials are registered using a separate lead from the termination pads of the sensor, or by using a special USB cable connected to the device.

Callibri for Electromyostimulation (EMS)

This version of the sensor offers the following functionality:

• the angular speed and the angular acceleration, as well as the angle of the horizon deviation using the triaxial MEMS-sensor (having a gyroscope and an accelerometer);
• creation of the electric stimulus.

In the electromyostimulation mode, Callibri Motion Assistant offers 7 preprogrammed EMS modes. All of them offer the most appropriate and efficient form and frequency of the impulse, as well as the time of treatment. The user is able to change only one parameter of the device, i.e. the current value (in percents from the maximum value). This value has to be selected individually and can be increased or decreased according to the personal feelings of the user.

Program #1. Relaxing stimulation – this mode is intended to relax spastic muscles, as well as to perform test stimulation in order to evaluate the current level of neuromuscular excitability of the damaged muscles.

Program #2. Synaptic stimulation – this mode is used to activate the synaptic apparatus of the damaged nervomuscular structures with clear signs of muscle fatigue as a result of previous neuritis or polyneuritis. It can be also used during the rehabilitation after various traumas of circumferential nerve stems, and cases of function overloading of the spine muscles as a result of postural disorders and vertebrogenic diseases.

Program #3. Dynamic modulation – this mode is used to potentiate the first influence when the muscle is resistive to the therapeutic operations (long rehabilitation or frequent electrotherapeutics of different nature).

Program #4. Restorative – this mode is used to stimulate dystrophic muscles in case of weak paresis and paretic extremities as a result of paresis.

Program #5. Superfrequency stimulation – this mode is used to decrease spastic of big or functionally shortened muscles as a result of posture disorders and scoliosis.

Program #6. Deep stimulation – this mode is used to stimulate deep and big muscles in extremities in case of clear dystrophy and heavy paresis.

Program #7. Electroanalgesia – this mode is used for hardware anesthetization using transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) in order to reduce pain and chronical pain syndromes in case of myoneuralgia, initis, joint diseases, degenerative disc disease, neuralgia, and neuropathy.


A special USB-cable is used for the electrical stimulation. Device termination pads can be used to fix the sensor.

ELECTROPHYSIOLOGICAL PRODUCTS

Software development kit (SDK)

SDK allows software experts creating various applications for Callibri hardware platform. By using Callibri sensors and the provided SDK one can create the following electrophysiological products:

1. Neural interfaces based on the biofeedback.
2. Fitness and sports training quality assessment system.
3. Various applications based on the registration of EMG, EEG, ECG and the pulmonary rheogram (respiratory movement).

Performance potential

• The device can be connected and disconnected.
• The information about the current state of the device can be received.
• The information about the current battery level can be received.
• The information about the functional abilities of the device can be received.
• The sampling frequency can be set and received from the device (125Hz, 250Hz, 500Hz, 1KHz, 2KHz, 4KHz).
• The process of signal reception can be launched and stopped.
• The information about the signal length can be received.
• A required part of a selected range (or the entire signal) can be received.
• The user is able to receive/set the amplification/shift of the data.
• The angle of deviation from the vertical/horizontal for a specific axis can be calculated.
• The signal spectrum can be shown.
• BFB-indexes for specific frequencies can be calculated.
• The heart rate and the tension index can be calculated (using ECG).
• The system can use both preset and custom filters.

Target audience

This set can be used by mobile application development teams working in the field of Life/Health Tracking for fitness, sports, current health state monitoring and the self-adjustment using the biofeedback methods.

It can be used by any other projects, which require a high-quality electrophysiological signal and estimate indicators (the heart rate, the signal power-density spectrum for a specific frequency range of EMG and EEG). For example, such projects may include new developments in the field gaming industry or BCI-related solutions.
